  1. Thank you very much. I believe your effort to up date all about NRI issues will build high reputation and good will.

  2. Since NRIs will be paying tax in their residing country, are they expected to file IT returns every year in India also?

    • NRIs are required to file tax return only if their income in India is more than 250,000. While they may be paying tax in their resident country, their primary liability to pay tax is in the country from where the income is arising. If an income is sourced in India, NRIs need to pay tax in India. However, they would not have to pay tax again in their resident country as they would be able to claim the credit of tax paid in India under DTAA in their resident country’s income tax return. Thanks.

  3. Hi,
Please can you tell me if I can change my NRI status to resident status for the purpose of income tax. I have an NRI account in India but want to change it to savings account. Iam an OcI card holder.
    Many thanks
    Zina

Just tell the bank that you are a resident and the bank will update the status and change from NRO to resident savings account. You would need to prove that you have been living in India for 6+ months and have an intention to stay in India for uncertain period and are now an Indian resident. Thanks.

You may be able to use any other options as required, net-banking login. If not, contact your CA and bank and they will help you. Thanks.
